I have had problems with my codecs over the last 4 months. Have had my pc for 6 years and have NEVER had a problem with video or converting. Lately it's been upside down and sometimes won't play at all.

1 SOLUTION.

1 open your video.
2 right click on the picture part of the video.
3 Choose output.
4 choose system.
5 choose system default.
6 restart your video.

The problems SHOULD be solved....
*good luck*

1) Install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or Real Alternative first. You\'ll see the following directory:
C:\\Program Files\\K-Lite Codec Pack\\Real\\Codecs

2) Save a copy of this [Codecs] directory. Because it\'ll somehow disappear when RealPlayer is installed, or you install K-Lite after RealPlayer, this folder won\'t exist (I don\'t remember clearly).

3) Then, install RealPlayer. As expected, WMP and MPC cannot play rmvb/rm properly (without sound, missing RealAudio COOK)

4) Go Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> [Environment Variables] -> edit Path

Add the following path:
%path%;C:\\Program Files\\K-Lite Codec Pack\\Real\\Codecs

Adding the above path, [Codecs] folder is visiable to Windows. Now you try to play rmvb/rm with WMP and MPC, it will play smoothly again.

Do NOT follow the instructions posted by AndidewA. It will cause major problems.

Adding support for RealMedia playback is easy. Simply install "Real Alternative (Lite)", or follow the instructions from the K-Lite FAQ.

Yes this version is missing real media codec, and this is my solution,
1. Install K-Lite Mega codec Pack 6.5.0 and copy all the folder inside c:/Program Files/K-lite Codec Pack and save it for later.
2. Uninstall it.
3. Install K-Lite Mega codec Pack That work with Real Media, For Example (in my PC) V.6.1.0
4. Paste all the folder from previous copy (V.6.50) to the same location (c:/Program Files/K-lite Mega codec Pack)and overwrite it.
5. You're done
Now you can play Real Media Files with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack V 6.50
I Personally Like it and Love it.

I tested v5.61 to v6.5 on XPSP3 and there's no audio for rmvb. It always displays the COOK. I had to revert to v5.3 (I read somewhere that some people went back as far as v5.05 to get theirs working).

K-Lite is awesome for a freeware. I just hope they would address the audio issue with rmvb formats.

I read in a thread that you could go and configure the settings in ffdaudio for v6.5 but when I did it, the audio playback was horrible.

a simple fix

AFTER you installed

go to this web page
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

download this
[Windows x86 20071007]

here is a link for shortcut

open it up,
copy these files
cook.dll, pncrt.dll, sipr3260.dll, drv33260.dll, drv43260.dll

Concerning RMVB-files - from the offical FAQ:

Q: RMVB files play without sound
A: You are probably missing a decoder for RealAudio COOK. You can install that by following these steps:

1. Download the Windows version of binary codec pack for MPlayer.
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html#binary_codec
2. Extract these files from the .zip archive: cook.dll, pncrt.dll, sipr3260.dll, drv33260.dll, drv43260.dll
3. Put those files in this folder: C:\Windows

Thanks!

With earlier versions of K-Lite Mega I could play .flv files (from YouTube etc.) with Windows Media Player without any problems. Since version 5.8.x, I can't play FLV files with WMP. I wonder why?

And btw, sometimes during installation (Playback only without player) K-Lite reports error when installing Direct VobSub.

This pack works perfectly on my Win7 Ultimate x64. Everything runs smoothly and no lag or freeze. However, on 64-bit pc, the marks deducted is due to its inability to generate video thumbnails. cruel thing to it as a 32bit pack will never be able to do that in 64bit explorer.

*While the x64 version can generate thumbnails, its codecs are slow. And the videos appear like having low fps. I wonder why they can't make the x64 as good as x32. The x64 will be my immediate choice once they resolve this.

OS: xpsp3 or vistasp2

While using mega codec pack v5.70 or v6.0 there is a problem to play the files with extension rm.

Btw,If we rename the .rm to .rmvb, then those files can be play normally.

and, if using Mega codec pack v4.85, everything is fine, without any rename.

Hope this problem can be solved in future release soon.

Thanks alotx.

I've been using the K-Lite Codec pack for a long time, and recently, with the release of version 6.0.4, I updated my laptop and desktop, both running Windows 7 64-bit. I only install the 32 bit version and had no problems until now.

When playing movies using Media Player Classic, the movie gets hiccups. They would freeze for a second, continue, freeze again, continue, and so on. I first thought it was a problem with my video card on the desktop (as I updated it first), but the same happens to my laptop. So I'll be downgrading to an earlier version for now.

I am not sure that a virus is in question, but there is possibility that errors are caused by some incompatible Adobe flash plugins or I installed wrong combination of some codecs and filters. I'll check it out. I have installed system recently and AVG 9 antivirus that updates every day, so that is impossible that it is virus. I tested XP codec pack on my system and then I noticed that these errors don't occur, but I simply prefer this yours because it decodes almost all video and audio formats, and so I use it. Anyway, thanks for help.

Hi, im not very satisfied with the new codec pack. i just installed version 5.9.0 in my comp.
now i feel some kind of lag when opening my video, especially when i first start the movie.
the last version i installed was 5.4 , it work find, but since i check there is a newer one, i think it better, so i installed it. if i knew 5.9 version is gonna make lag when watching my movie, i think i'll stay with my 5.4 version. i know this k lite is free, and i cant argue that this is the best i can find on internet, but it will be nice if u can fix all the lag on your next version. hope that will come out soon. btw i installed with dxva, but after i noticed the lag, i disable it, but its not effect anything, it still lag. please release the next version as as soon as possible, thank you.

I noticed that these newer codecs pack don't work properly in Windows XP SP3. After installation of this codec pack everything seems to work fine, but after restart of my computer, and after I connect to Internet all goes wrong. Many of the codecs and filters simply don't work, and my Windows Media player 11, Windows Media Player Classic and similar players crash every time I try to open video files in flv, avi and mpg format. Does this mean that this codec pack updates itself every time I connect to Internet and causes system errors or it is simply not fully compatible with Windows XP SP. There are no other codecs and codec packs installed.

Excellent is not a big enough word to describe the quality, versatility, and performance of this package!

I've been using it since 2001 (AMD Athlon 1200 MP) and it is ALWAYS a standard I point out to others by which they should compare.

I've recommended this pack to more people than I can remember!!!!
