The Win7DSFilterTweaker(aka Preferred Filter Tweaker for Windows 7) allows to configure your preferred DirectShow decoders with just a few mouse clicks. It is quick, easy, and changes can always be undone.
Microsoft made several large changes with regard to multimedia playback in Windows 7 compared to previous version of Windows.

Windows 7 includes a new playback framework called Media Foundation.

Microsoft also added decoders for H.264 video and AAC audio. All with the intention to improve playback experience and the out-of-the-box playback capabilities.

This is nice, but has unfortunately also resulted in a more restricted playback environment.

It is no longer possible to use third party codecs without needing to resort to complex tweaks. Since the decoders offered by Microsoft aren't perfect, there are situations where it is desirable to use more powerful third party decoders.

Win7DSFilterTweaker has been created to provide you with an easy to use interface for tweaking which decoders are used in Windows 7.

This tool is particularly useful for the Microsoft players, namely Windows Media Player and Media Center. Certain advanced third party players, such as Media Player Classic, are already capable of using third party filters without using this tool.
