I have been using this codec pack for a while and I must say I'm very pleased with it, but I think it's time for an update...
A number of codecs are a bit old, and some of them don't quite go so well with 64bit processors...
Still, very good but I'd sure would like 6.04, or more...

I'm not going to complain about the actual codecs here - I understand many of them are out of date, but rather the fact that installing this almost completely wiped out my windows start menu. Where did it go? It left on some folders but completely removed a LOT of links.

if you don't need ENCODE videos, DO NOT INSTALL THIS CODECPACK. it contains lot of cool codecs, which are easy to find, but in such compilation? noone is telling you "install professional", there is also "player edition" or "minimalist" one - just use those and it works fine. btw: it uses quicktime alternative, which is in trouble with itunes and quicktime also.
trouble with hangin' explorer? just don't use it. it is fast, but using key-commanded total commander you will be much faster - and see thumbnails too :)))

To stop the error between iTunes and mega codec pack... So...
You have 2 options...
- First of all, you NEVER should install Ace Mega Codec Pack 6.03 (or CodecLite) after install iTunes (it's going to have a troubleshot between Mega Codec Pack and Quick Time Player)
- If your already done it, you need to...
1- Delete the folder and the components about Quick Time in System32 folder (C:\Windows\System32...)
2- Unistall Quick Time Player (don't unistall itunes)
3- Download iTunes installation file and repair it.
I'm not sure if it works 100%. I did it 2 last times in my computer and it works well until now.

this Ace mega Codec Pack is the worst software ever. I am software maker and I know. what it do It, try to took over all of your DIVX and any player context and then, when you try to uninstall it, it glue itself in your registry and then you cannot remove the nuts!!! so anyone who says that ACE megacodec pack is good, can sux balls... !

Don't do it !
Sure they decode the videos well - albeit introducing a delay before playback quite often. They also prevent a number of programs from working - most obviously iTunes, Quicktime, and to a less dramatic extent Safari. They also prevent Bonjour from working properly, which in turn prevents Adobe products from installing properly, which in turn corrupts the MS Windows Installer routines. All in all quit a mess to sort out.

I have an older system devoted as a servaliance system and needed some codics to render some footage for court-room presentation after installing this software, the previously clean computer showed signes of problems, spybot found a Worm & Trogan, and several anti-Virus scanner's not just one found over 30 intances of virus's, maleware, spyware & adware and so called grey-ware on the computer, so much for a computer that was supposed to be a spy, HA! HA!, One of the programes installed with this bundle may even highjack your browser to an adult pr0n site so this software is not recommended for the KID's Computer at all.

Really...anyone posting problems with this should look at the date of the last update

If you've downloaded this in 2008 and are having problems with your computer after then shame on you. we're talking a little over three years old and people are still d/l'ing this and using it.
It was fine in it's time. I had to do some tweaking with it back in 2005 but that's been the last time I've used it. It's been on my computer since but now that new Codecs are coming out I'm thinking of grabbing k-lite to replace it.
But ANYONE that uses this product in 2008 should be slapped across the face with a wet noodle for not noticing how old the product is. A/V doesn't sit still like this pack apparently has. Get a newer pack folks!!

I saw this codec pack and decided to try it, I have no problems viewing most any video out there. EXCEPT when its an embedded flv in some website embedded players. Such as tinypic. I made the mistake of letting it give "Browser support" to my firefox.
How do I remove the "Browser support" from Firefox?

Install this Codec Pack on an old computer that you don't care about. What happens to Itunes?!! What happens to QuickTime?!!What happens when you try to uninstall it?!! Unfortunately I only read the comments posted AFTER I installed it!Take my advice: don't subject your new desktop or laptop computer to such cruelty, stick to a more conventional codec pack such as K-Lite.

Itunes crashes with ace mega codecs pack because it interfears with quicktime. try this, uninstalll ace mega codecs pack, and when you reinstall it, search for the quicktime codec. Make sure its unchecked and click install. that should work.

Simply put, if you just want to watch movies, you don't need hundreds of rare codecs clogging up your system and polluting your registry. This is a piece of bloatware, a buggy one at that. You know something's wrong when explorer crashes trying to create thumbnails for a folder of videos. And you can't go back completely once you've installed since the 6.03 uninstaller isn't clean; the only way to make sure is to wipe and reinstall Windows. Best to stick with K-Lite Mega.

Ace maga codecs pack is an awful piece of software.The codecs work fine but they are not configured properly and wrong codecs are launchaed during playback.it crashes quicktime & itunes 7.x.To repair these progams go to the "system32" directory in your pc.Go to-tools-options and uncheck the box that says-"hide protected operating systam files."Ignore the windows warning message and click ok. Scroll down and delete the folder named "QuickTime." Reinstall quicktime and itunes.It Should work now.

If you have windows vista & running iTunes it's better not to install Ace mega codecs because iTunes will not start(error: iTunes has stopped working...) and you'll have an headache trying to make it work again!!!

But it's so buggy. I had too many inrepairable errors upon installing this. And the fact that the codecs used are now TOO outdated for my taste.
This codec pack REALLY needs a serious update.

Really could be more user friendly. I installed everything and its nearly wrecked my system.
Part of it is my fault for installing everything but surely the creators should warn about potential conflicts and refuse to install rogue items.
iTunes nor quicktime works for me now.
Very disappointed.

I run Vista on my laptop and had to install ACE to be able to run certain video files online.
Since I've install ACE, MSN live crashes whenever I start my webcam, itunes crashes, media player crashes...What could be wrong with this?
Advice anyone?

except for one thing, it crashes explorer if i click on some video files(especially the ones frm a digicam) and brings up the Data Execution Prevention thing up
btw has anyone tested if this works with windows Vista

I rated it 4, because it does have it's downsides.
PROS: THIS really defines the idea of a "codec pack". It's truly an all-in-one, totally complete package that installs all the needed codec to play almost all types of audio and video formats. With this installed, I would never need to download any codec again.
CONS: It's not really beginner-friendly, since with a lot of stuff thrown in, you might have a hard time installing the codecs that you would need. The dashboard system does ease up things a bit, but without codec knowledge and which conflicts to which, problems WILL occur (though I only used the default settings for ACE, and everything works fine)
Overall, for me, the pros outweigh the cons, and this codec pack sure is a keeper. After all, for all my media playing needs, I only needed Zoom Player WMV Pro (with some Media Player Classic to supplement it).
Oh, and for those who think that uninstalling ACE MCP is VERY difficult and messy, maybe you wanted to try running a registry cleaner and restarting the computer afterwards?

i have 4 pc's all have ace mega codecs installed great product i like having tools and codecs in 1 exe, anyway 3 pc's itunes will no longer work and will not uninstall 1 pc itunes is fine but adobe premier will not work.
i just reformatted my machine and installed ace mega 1st i realize it install quicktime 6.52 which break qicktime bundled w/ itunes since its 7.x if itunes is installed first.
i've installed itunes nero and adobe after and everything is fine. so install ace first and you should be ok.

I notice that most of the negative comments and poor ratings given to this software are by people who also don't have a grasp of english spelling or grammar. These signs of idiocy or laziness clearly indicate the root of the 'problems' you folks have with this codec pack.
The only issue is with the Moonlight MPEG-2 filter which is not an MPEG-2 filter at all (PowerDVD or InterActual should be used instead, thankfully, these are distributed along wit the package anyway).
Provided you configure the Codecs you wish to use, set the merits in order of preference and don't overload your system with irrelevant dsp's etc. then you'll have no worries and find this package is very useful indeed.

Fair codec pack. Could use some work on the conflicts and perhaps come up with a more comprehensive and intuitive dashboard. It ruined my system twice before i figured out what the problem was, so buggy - yes, but worth the effort. Keep on developing, boys.

what can i say, i c alot of ppl are dissapointed over the pack. but one thing i have noticed. dont have a bounch of players before u install this pack. many will get errors. but if u install them after u install this pack NO PROBLEMO!!
many complains about there is 2 many codecs and filters. if u miss 1 codec dont bother downloading this. i have used it 4 quite some while and have installed it on all the comps my famili have. no prbolems. the reason i have it, i hate downloading a file and dont be able 2 open it. you can even open music from cd on pc games.... best codec that is, if you want pandoras box, its right before you!!

it works fine plays the files I couldnt play before BUT....
NOW IT FREEZES UP MY NERO VISION EXPRESS 2 OR 3 EVERYTIME I TRY TO MAKE A SVCD OR DVD. and I have not found a soulution yet other to uninstall it. anybody know anything that would help ??
IT also has alot of codecs that I have no clue if I need them or not and disables alot that I dont know if I should or not. SOME KIND OF GUIDE BESIDES THE VERY BASIC ONE WOULD BE NICE.

I like this pack so far, i installed the pro version and it works fine, all you gotta do is uncheck whatever stuff u dont need. So far it plays all my videos and music flawlessly.for all u who like complaining get a cardboard box and hide under it to keep you safe from whatever you cant understand :)

I noticed a few people are having problems with quicktime after installing this pack, just uninstall it, re-install itunes/quicktime, then reinstall the codec pack but uncheck on the list of codecs the 1 that says quicktime, you cant miss it, its about 20mb on the list.

Not a good codec program...
This simply isnt worth the download, not only is the pack extremely large but it can't play a lot of my files that I could when running the k-lite pack. I ended up installing another codec pack ontop of this to keep running my other files. Also the uninstall didn't complete properly so I have to remove a lot of files manually.
Perhaps if this codec pack consists of codecs that you need not offered elsewhere it'd be worth the download otherwise there are better alternatives out there.

This was the most horrible codec pack ever. It messed up all .dll files associated with Quicktime and iTunes, and I still can't get them to work right after uninstalling both, manually getting rid of old files, and reinstalling. Not to mention half of the codecs didn't work. I understand a pack like this may be useful, but if something like this is to be created, please don't make it sabotage the other media players.
