WhatsApp Messenger is the app most people on Android already reach for when they want to text, call, or share something with friends and family.

It's free, it runs on your existing phone number, and every message and call is locked with end-to-end encryption by default.

If you're reinstalling, setting up a new phone, or just want the APK rather than going through the Play Store, the download link above gives you a clean, virus-checked file.

What WhatsApp Actually Does - in Plain Terms

WhatsApp lets you send messages, photos, videos, voice notes, and documents to anyone else who has the app, using your internet connection instead of paid SMS.

That means no per-message fees and no extra charge for talking to someone in another country - if you're both on WiFi or mobile data, it's free.

You can also make voice and video calls, post Status updates that vanish after 24 hours, and run group chats for family, work, or your neighbourhood.

The part that matters most for a lot of people: your personal chats and calls are end-to-end encrypted. In plain English, that means the contents are scrambled so only you and the person you're talking to can read or hear them - not your phone company, and not even WhatsApp itself.

Free Calls and Messages Anywhere

Send as many messages as you like and call any contact worldwide without roaming charges.

WhatsApp supports one-on-one and group calls with up to 32 people on a call, and it quietly drops the quality up or down depending on how strong your connection is, so a call doesn't just cut out the moment your signal dips.

Group Chats for Families and Teams

Group chats hold a large number of participants, with admin controls, @mentions, and pinned messages to keep important announcements from scrolling away.

It works equally well for a family thread, a school class, or coordinating a small business team.

Sharing Photos and Video the Right Way

WhatsApp compresses photos and videos automatically to save your data, which is handy day to day but not ideal when you want a picture to look its best.

You can turn on higher-quality sharing in settings for the shots that matter. If you want to polish a photo before it goes out, Hypic Photo Editor handles quick edits and AI touch-ups, and for Status videos, CapCut for Android and InShot both make trimming, captions, and transitions easy.

Need to convert a clip to a friendlier format before sending? The online audio converter handles quick audio jobs in your browser with nothing to install, and on-device, FFmpeg Media Encoder can re-encode video into a WhatsApp-friendly format.

Playing Files People Send You

WhatsApp opens common formats fine, but the moment a friend forwards an unusual video file, your default player can choke. VLC for Android plays almost anything without extra codecs, and for MKV files or tracks with DTS or EAC3 audio, MX Player paired with the MX Player Custom Codec add-on fills the gaps.

If you use KMPlayer instead, the KMPlayer Custom Codec does the same job.

For voice notes and audio files, AIMP for Android is a clean, reliable player, and BSPlayer for Android auto-fetches subtitles if someone sends you a foreign-language clip.

Before You Install: What Your Phone Needs

WhatsApp runs on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or newer and needs roughly 200MB of free space, a working phone number for the one-time SMS verification, and an internet connection. That's it - no account signup, no username to remember.

If you're moving from an old phone, have your Google Drive backup ready so you can restore your chat history during setup.

Because you're installing an APK rather than going through the Play Store, Android will ask you to allow installs from unknown sources the first time.

That's normal for any direct APK. If you'd like to double-check a file before opening it, the APK Checker tool inspects an APK's contents and permissions right in your browser.

Privacy and Security Worth Knowing About

Beyond the default encryption, WhatsApp gives you several controls worth turning on: two-step verification adds a PIN to stop anyone hijacking your number, fingerprint lock keeps the app shut until it's you, disappearing messages auto-delete on a timer, and view-once media can only be opened a single time.

You can also block and report unwanted contacts. If you care about keeping the rest of your phone's traffic private too, it's worth reading up on broader tools in the Security Tools section.

Saving and Sharing Videos From Other Apps

A lot of WhatsApp sharing starts somewhere else - a clip you found and want to forward. VidMate and TubeMate let you save videos for offline viewing so you can pass them along in a chat.

To record your screen for a how-to or to capture a video call, XRecorder captures up to 1080p with optional internal audio.

Backups, Business, and the Bigger Picture

WhatsApp backs up your chats to Google Drive automatically, and you can choose how often and whether to include videos to keep the backup size down.

If you run a small business, WhatsApp Business is a separate free download with profiles, automated greetings, quick replies, and a product catalogue - for everyday personal messaging, the standard app here is all you need.

And if you watch a lot of video that gets shared around, Kodi for Android turns your phone into a full media centre.

It's not version 2.25.24.76, it's the previous version that they didn't upload.
