There is no PotPlayer for Android, there never has been, and the apps in the store using that name are not made by the people who make PotPlayer.
PotPlayer is a Windows program and has only ever been a Windows program.
Kakao, the South Korean company behind it, has never released a mobile version and has never said it plans to.
That is the whole answer - so the rest of this page is about what to install instead, and what to avoid on the way.
Then what are all those PotPlayer apps in the store?
Search any app store or APK site for PotPlayer and you will find several results, some with the familiar yellow icon.
None of them come from Kakao. They are unrelated video players from unrelated developers, using a well-known name to pick up searches like yours.
An app borrowing a famous name is telling you something about itself. Some are harmless ad-supported players with a misleading listing. Others ask for permissions a video player has no business wanting, and a sideloaded APK from a mirror site has nobody checking it at all.

The only official PotPlayer download is the Windows one at potplayer.daum.net. Anything else claiming the name is somebody else's app.
What you actually miss, and what gives it back
People do not miss PotPlayer in general - they miss two or three specific things about it.

Start with VLC
If you only read one line of this page, it is this one: install VLC and stop looking.
It is the closest thing on Android to what PotPlayer does on Windows - it carries its own decoders, so MKV, AVI, MOV, HEVC, FLAC and the rest open without you installing anything else.
It also runs on Android TV, Fire TV and Chromebooks from the same listing, which matters if the reason you wanted PotPlayer was to play files on a television.
There is no paid VLC. VideoLAN is a non-profit and the app has never carried an advert, so anything sold as VLC Pro, Premium or Mod is somebody repackaging free software.
MX Player, and the codec thing nobody explains
MX Player is the one most people end up with, and it is genuinely good - the pinch-to-zoom and swipe controls are better than VLC's.
It is ad-supported, which is the trade. Amazon bought the app in 2024 and retired the Amazon MX Player branding in July 2026, but the player itself carried on.
The part that catches people out is audio. Open a film and you get picture with no sound, usually on an EAC3, AC3 or DTS track, because those decoders are not bundled.
The fix is free and takes a minute: install the MX Player Custom Codec, then point the app at it under Settings, Decoder, Custom codec.
The other two worth knowing
KMPlayer for Android is the nearest thing in spirit to PotPlayer - another long-running Korean player with more settings than most people will ever open. If what you liked was having every knob available, it is the one to try.
BSPlayer for Android earns its place on subtitles. It fetches them automatically from online databases and syncs them, which is fiddly work in every other app on this list.

Still want PotPlayer itself?
Then you want a Windows PC, and that part is straightforward.
PotPlayer is free, runs on Windows 7 through 11, and still gets updates - the format support, the hardware acceleration and the subtitle handling are all exactly as you remember them.
What it will not do is run on a phone, in an emulator that anyone should rely on, or through a browser.

Is PotPlayer ever coming to Android?
There has been no announcement, and none in the fifteen years the player has existed. Treat it as a no rather than a not yet.
The Play Store shows me a PotPlayer app. Is it real?
No. Several unrelated players use the name and something close to the icon, and none of them is published by Kakao. Check the developer name on the listing before installing anything.
Which one is closest to PotPlayer?
VLC for how much it plays without help, KMPlayer for how much you can configure. Between those two you have covered most of what PotPlayer was doing for you.
Why does MX Player play video with no sound?
The film almost certainly has an EAC3, AC3 or DTS soundtrack, and MX Player does not ship those decoders. Installing the free custom codec and selecting it under Settings, Decoder fixes it.
Can I run PotPlayer on Android with an emulator?
Windows emulators for Android exist and PotPlayer is a demanding program, so playback is choppy at best. A native Android player will be better on every count.
Is PotPlayer for Windows still safe to use?
Yes, from the official source. It is still maintained and still free, and the only real risk is downloading it from a mirror that wraps it in something else.
PotPlayer stayed on Windows - but nothing on this list is a downgrade, and the first one is free, ad-free and plays everything you were going to throw at it.
