The only reason i use this software is the built-in RV40 encoder( real video 10 ). It gives excellent compression and quality.
For those who are complaining about the converting speed, get a decent graphics card !!! It really helps decrease encoding time

Without dropping frames playback via VLC of ripped files are stuttering. I have tried DVD's ripped to VOB's or WMV. Same thing.
Its quite annoying.
My PC is a 3Ghz i7 quad core with 6GB of DDR3 Ram and 7200 rpm hard drives with NVidia 9800GT video.
Conversion from DVD to WMV is quite slow as well.
I am starting to look for alternatives.

Has some good sides, but overall this soft should be free. No real multi core support, so the encoding is going really slow. It looks like they only change skin in new versions.
If you want something powerful just use MediaCoder.

Well, after using Xilisoft DVD Ripper Ultimate 5 for a while now, I'm very impressed. It does a great job of converting DVD's for my daughter (she has an iTouch and PSP) and my wife (she has a Nano 3g). It also does great for divx conversions (.avi's).
The UI is simple, yet gives me access to all the options I care about (and many more I don't). The latest update (12/30/08) seems to have solved a few glitches in the UI, as well as allow even more control (like limiting the number of cores to use, and since I have a quad core this also may be useful).
Overall I highly recommend it. I used to use AutoGK, 3GP_Converter, WinFF and XviD4PSP, and though I will keep them around, I plan on using this one for all my needs now.

I have the Xilisoft Video Converter (ULTIMATE), and I have to say, it's the best video converter I've ever used. This allows you so many different formats to actually work with. Unlike most converter programs, this one allows you the option of converting your video files to several different High Definition formats. That's AMAZING.
I have not experienced any errors yet with this software, and to me, the user interface is self explanatory, so if you don't get it, something's wrong!!! My videos have come out looking and sounding much better.
Give the Xilisoft Video Converter a chance. You'll find this a whole lot better than most converter programs.
