ConvertXtoDVD turns your MP4, MKV, AVI and other video files into a proper DVD that plays on the DVD player under your TV.

It is paid software from VSO Software, and the 7-day trial puts a watermark on anything it converts.

What ConvertXtoDVD Actually Does

Home DVD players only understand one strict format. ConvertXtoDVD takes almost any video file, re-encodes it into that format, builds a menu around it and burns the result.

It has its own decoders built in, so you usually don't need to install a codec pack first. Audio in MP3, AAC, AC3, DTS and other common formats is converted along the way.

• Menus. Pick a menu template and change its background, layout and buttons.
• Chapters. Let it add chapters at regular intervals, or set your own points.
• Subtitles and audio tracks. Keep the tracks inside an MKV, or add external subtitle files such as SRT.
• Several videos on one disc. Put episodes or home videos on the same DVD, each reachable from the menu.
• NTSC or PAL. Choose the TV standard your player expects.
• Three ways out. Burn straight to disc, save a DVD folder on your drive, or create an ISO image.

Trial, Licence and the Watermark

The trial lets you try every feature for 7 days, but the converted video carries a watermark. That is fine for checking your player accepts the disc, not for the final copy.

How to Make a DVD With ConvertXtoDVD

1. Add your videos. Drag the files into the main window, in the order you want them on the disc.
2. Check audio and subtitles. Open each video's tracks and keep only the languages you need.
3. Pick a menu. Choose a template and adjust the background and buttons.
4. Set chapters. Use the automatic interval or place your own points.
5. Choose the output. Burn to a blank DVD, or save a DVD folder or ISO to burn later.
6. Convert. Start the job and let it finish before touching the burner.

Preparing Your Files First

A little tidying before you start saves disc space and time. Cut unwanted parts with LosslessCut, which trims without re-encoding.

To remove extra audio languages or subtitle tracks from an MKV, use MKVToolNix. Fix out-of-sync or badly formatted subtitles in Subtitle Edit.

For home movies that need more than a trim, edit them first in Shotcut and export one finished file.

Burning Later and Testing the Result

Before you burn a stack of discs, open the DVD folder or ISO in VLC media player or MPC-BE. Both play menus and chapters, so you can check navigation on the PC first.

System Requirements

• 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 - the current installers are x64 only.
• A DVD burner and blank DVD±R or DVD±RW discs, if you want to burn directly.
• Free disk space for the temporary files, several gigabytes per disc.

Who Should Look Elsewhere

If you are not going to put the result in a DVD player, you don't need a DVD at all. The tell: you plan to watch on a smart TV, a phone or a USB stick.
