Adobe Is Retiring the App That Replaced Premiere Clip

Adobe switches Premiere Rush off on 30 September 2026, four weeks after the Android app meant to replace it opened as a beta.

Premiere Rush has been on borrowed time for a year.

Adobe pulled it from the app stores and from Adobe.com on 30 September 2025 and said the app itself would stop a year later.

That year is up this month.

What Premiere Rush Actually Did

Rush was the simple one: a multi-track timeline that ran on a phone and on a laptop, with the same project syncing between them so you could rough-cut on the bus and finish at a desk.

It did titles, transitions, colour presets, speed changes, picture-in-picture and auto-reframing for vertical crops, then posted straight to your social accounts without exporting a file first. There was a free tier and a paid one, and a Rush project would open in Premiere Pro on the day you outgrew it.

The Replacement for the Replacement

Rush arrived in October 2018 as the easy all-in-one editor for social video. Adobe pulled Premiere Clip from the stores the following September, ended its support in March 2020, and pointed those users at Rush.

Eight years on, Rush is the one being pulled, and the thing replacing it is called Premiere, which is also what Adobe now calls the desktop editor Rush existed to keep people away from.

Adobe's old Premiere Clip product page now redirects to the overview for Premiere on iPhone, so the URL that once carried Clip's retirement notice is working as the marketing page for the app replacing Rush.

The iPhone version arrived on schedule in September 2025, free, with 4K exports and no watermark. The Android version did not.

It opened as an Early Access beta at the start of September 2026, which leaves anyone who edited on an Android phone about four weeks to move onto software Adobe itself still labels early.

What Actually Stops on 30 September

Technical support ends and Rush disappears from the Creative Cloud desktop app. Adobe's own discontinuation FAQ says the apps "may no longer function" after that, which is a careful way of saying nobody is promising they will.

The same page then closes with a promo card headed "Easily edit videos for social with Premiere Rush" and a button inviting you to open it.

Worth checking. Renewals stopped a year ago, so the premium features may already be gone from your copy while the free version carries on to the end of the month.

Get Your Projects Out First

Premiere on desktop opens a Rush project through Open Premiere Rush Project on its home screen, and converts it on the way in. Creative Cloud Synced files were switched off before Rush was, so anything that lived in the cloud rather than on your own drive is likely to arrive as offline media you have to relink by hand.

Do that while the app still opens, not on 1 October.

What to Use Instead

For short social clips, CapCut is the closest like-for-like swap on Windows, built around the same templates and automatic captions Rush leaned on.

If you want a real timeline with no subscription attached, DaVinci Resolve is free and exports without a watermark, and Shotcut is far lighter if your machine is modest.
