You get the iOS version, a storage breakdown, battery cycle count and the UDID on one screen, with no Apple ID and no account anywhere in the process.

Which Build You Need

The vendor ships four current builds and it is worth taking the right one first time.

• Windows 64-bit - the default for any PC bought in roughly the last decade.
• Windows 32-bit - only for older hardware or a 32-bit install of Windows.
• Mac, Apple Silicon - M1, M2, M3, M4 and later.
• Mac, Intel - older Intel Macs.

If you are not sure which Mac you have, open the Apple menu, choose About This Mac, and read the Chip or Processor line. Anything beginning with "Apple M" is Apple Silicon.

All of these are full offline installers rather than web stubs, so they finish the install without needing a connection partway through.

There is also a legacy V3 branch still maintained separately. It exists for older Windows machines and for people who prefer the previous interface, and it is worth trying only if the current build refuses to run.

Windows, Mac and Linux: What Actually Exists

The Windows build is the complete one and it is what most guides and tutorials assume.

There is a real macOS version, and it is a genuine port rather than a wrapper, but it trails the Windows release and a few features arrive late.

Linux builds exist as .deb and .rpm packages, though they lag furthest behind of the three.

There is no 3uTools app for Android, and there never has been. The confusion is understandable, because the same developer publishes 3uAirPlayer, which does have an Android and Android TV app for screen mirroring, and that is a different product doing a different job.

The iOS companion app is not a standalone download either. You install the desktop client first, connect the device, and the desktop client pushes the mobile app across.

File Transfer Without iTunes Restrictions

Transfers work by drag and drop in both directions.

Photos, videos, music, contacts, messages, voice memos and documents each move individually. You pick exactly what goes where, and nothing gets overwritten to match a library on the computer.

That is the real difference from iTunes, which still uses a sync model capable of deleting content already on the device. If you only ever need documents and folders, CopyTrans Filey is a stripped-down alternative built for that one task.

For photos specifically, CopyTrans Studio mounts the camera roll as a virtual drive in File Explorer with no interface to learn. For music, SharePod runs portable from a USB stick and edits playlists alongside the transfer.

When photos arrive as HEIC and Windows will not open them, HEIF Image Extensions adds native support to Photos and File Explorer thumbnails in a couple of minutes. Video from newer iPhones is HEVC and has its own separate licensing gap on Windows.

Backup and Restore

Backups are complete, local, and stored on your PC rather than in iCloud.

That matters before an iOS update, a factory reset or a device swap, when you do not want to depend on Apple's storage tiers or on having a connection at all. Restoring one back to a device is done from the same screen.

A full restore takes as long as the data takes to move, so allow real time for it rather than expecting it to be instant.

For the narrower job of pulling music off an iPod when the iTunes library is gone, iDump handles that specifically.

Firmware Management and iOS Downgrading

3uTools flashes official IPSW firmware straight to a connected device, covering upgrades, full restores and downgrades to older iOS versions while Apple is still signing them.

The app checks firmware authenticity before flashing and walks you into DFU mode when normal recovery is not enough. Devices that no longer respond to iTunes can often be brought back this way.

Device Diagnostics

The diagnostics panel reads battery health percentage, cycle count, CPU load, live temperature and storage broken down by category.

It is the quickest way to decide whether a battery replacement is worth it before standby time starts collapsing, or to find what is eating storage before a trade-in.

Building Ringtones

There is a built-in ringtone workshop: load an audio file, trim the part you want, and it converts to M4R and moves it onto the device in one pass.

No iTunes step, no separate converter. If the source file is in a format that needs converting first, our online audio converter handles that in the browser with nothing installed.

Jailbreak Tools

3uTools detects the connected model, reads the iOS version, and surfaces whatever jailbreak methods are compatible, with step-by-step guidance and no command line.

In practice that means older iOS releases. Public jailbreaks appear well behind Apple's current version and sometimes never arrive for a given release at all, so treat the feature as version-dependent rather than something that works on any device you plug in.

When to Choose 3uTools, and When Not To

3uTools is the right pick when you want the whole pipeline in one place: file access, backups, firmware and diagnostics, free, without an Apple ID.

If your need is narrower, a specialist tool will be less to learn. SynciOS suits media-heavy workflows and converts video on the way to the phone. iPhone PC Suite adds SMS access and calendar sync to the usual transfer functions.

Moving between platforms rather than managing one device is a different job. Samsung Smart Switch handles contact and media migration in both directions, and Samsung Kies still covers older Galaxy hardware Smart Switch has dropped.

And if all you want is to re-encode video before putting it on the phone, this is the wrong tool entirely. HandBrake does that properly and 3uTools does not do it at all.
