Fujifilm X RAW Studio 1.28

3 from 1 Reviews

Fujifilm X RAW Studio takes a fundamentally different approach to RAW conversion.

Instead of relying on your computer's CPU to interpret RAW files, it connects directly to your Fujifilm X Series or GFX camera via USB and uses the camera's built-in image processor to handle the conversion.

The result is output that matches exactly what the camera would produce - accurate Film Simulation colors, proper noise reduction, and faithful tonality that third-party software often struggles to replicate.

This camera-powered processing means conversion speed depends on your camera hardware rather than your computer's specifications.

A modest laptop produces the same quality output as a high-end workstation, making it particularly useful for photographers who edit on the go.

Connect your camera, select your RAF files, adjust Film Simulation modes and processing parameters, and batch convert with confidence that every image reflects Fujifilm's signature color science.

What's New in Version 1.28

The latest release adds compatibility with the FUJIFILM X-T30 III and introduces macOS Tahoe 26 support for Mac users.

Previous updates brought support for the X-E5, GFX100RF, X-M5, and the REALA ACE Film Simulation mode for RAW development. The software now covers the full range of current Fujifilm cameras from the compact X-M5 to the medium format GFX100 II.

Supported Cameras and Film Simulations

Fujifilm X RAW Studio works with virtually every Fujifilm interchangeable-lens camera released in recent years, including the X-T5, X-H2S, X-H2, X-S20, X100VI, X-Pro3, and the entire GFX medium format lineup.

Film Simulation options available during RAW conversion include Provia, Velvia, Astia, Classic Chrome, Classic Neg, ETERNA, ETERNA Bleach Bypass, Nostalgic Neg, ACROS, and the newly added REALA ACE - depending on your connected camera model.

Working with RAF Files

RAF is Fujifilm's proprietary RAW format, and X RAW Studio is the only converter that processes these files using the camera's own X-Processor.

If you need to browse RAF files outside of X RAW Studio, FastStone Image Viewer supports RAF thumbnails and EXIF display, while Raw Image Extension adds native RAF preview support directly in Windows Explorer.

For metadata inspection on your RAF library, ExifTool / ExifToolGUI reads and edits EXIF, IPTC, and XMP data embedded in Fujifilm RAW files. Fujifilm cameras that also record raw video benefit from RAW Video Splitter for splitting and organizing raw video clips before editing.

Complementary RAW Editors

While X RAW Studio excels at producing camera-accurate conversions, photographers who want more creative control over their edits can pair it with dedicated RAW processors. darktable offers non-destructive editing with full RAF support and advanced masking tools.

RawTherapee provides precise color control and extensive demosaicing options for Fujifilm's X-Trans sensor. SILKYPIX RAW Converter delivers high-resolution demosaic processing with dedicated Fujifilm camera profiles.

For universal archival conversion, Adobe DNG Converter transforms RAF files into the open DNG standard for long-term compatibility across any editing application.

Photographers working with other camera brands alongside their Fujifilm gear will find similar manufacturer-specific tools useful. Canon users can try Digital Photo Professional, while Nikon shooters benefit from Nikon NX Studio for native NEF processing.

System Requirements and Installation

Fujifilm X RAW Studio runs on Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and macOS Tahoe 26, Sequoia, Sonoma, Ventura, and Monterey. A minimum of 4 GB RAM is recommended. Installation requires a USB connection to a compatible Fujifilm camera - the software will not function without a camera connected, as it relies on the camera's processor for all RAW conversion tasks.

Mac users on macOS Sequoia or later should ensure "Removable Volumes" access is enabled in System Settings for the application to detect the connected camera. The latest version includes on-screen guidance for this configuration.

Fujifilm X RAW Studio FAQ

Q: Why does X RAW Studio require a camera connection?
A: Unlike traditional RAW converters that use your computer's CPU, X RAW Studio sends processing instructions to the camera's image processor via USB. This guarantees output identical to in-camera JPEG conversion with all Film Simulation characteristics preserved.

Q: Can I edit RAF files without connecting my camera?
A: X RAW Studio requires a connected camera for RAW conversion. For offline RAF viewing and basic edits, use IrfanView with its RAW plugin, XnView which supports 700+ formats, ImageGlass for lightweight browsing, or ACDSee for a complete photo management workflow.

For full offline RAW development, darktable and RawTherapee both handle Fujifilm RAF files with X-Trans sensor awareness.

Q: Which Film Simulations are available?
A: Available simulations depend on your connected camera model. Newer cameras like the X-T5, X-H2S, and GFX100 II support the full range including REALA ACE, Nostalgic Neg, Classic Neg, ETERNA Bleach Bypass, and all classic modes.

Q: Does X RAW Studio support batch conversion?
A: Yes. Select multiple RAF files, configure your preferred Film Simulation and processing parameters, and convert entire shoots in one operation.

Processing speed matches the camera's own conversion time per image. After conversion, Light Image Resizer can batch resize your output files for web or print delivery. If you need to serve images in modern web formats, WebP Codec adds native WebP support to Windows for previewing converted files.

For photographers combining their Fujifilm stills with 3D compositing or motion graphics, Blender imports exported images directly into professional rendering workflows.

I have been a Fujifilm X RAW Studio user since 2020. Installation was super simple. I now want to install the latest version (1.24.0) on my Windows 10 PC.

Why does the installation seem to suggest that I make use of a third-party application to extract the .dmg file? Behind my query is the fact that I do not want to buy an application to do the job.

What is with Fujifilm software engineers that seem not to be able to provide a file that self-extracts in Windows?

Cheers.

It looks like you downloaded the wrong version.

For Windows 10, you should download the XRawStudio1240.exe file. ;)
