This media player has 2 problems:

1st its the older version without Home cinema. . so why would download it.

Second in general there are just better free media players out there like VLC

VLC uses sub par codecs to render video on slow computers.MPC was picked up by another group that called their MPC, MPC Home Cinema.

It comes with Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) and is by far the best video player for Windows machines.

This program works just fine for playing DVDs. I had to get it because Windows Media Player 11 just keeps crashing.

For some reason after updating it my video/audio starts stuttering. It lags so bad that it affects the whole video.

Also I have this laptop that can do 120hz refresh rate, but it isn't smooth enough so I have cyberlink powerdvd 11 which does the job quite awesome

I still don't get what is different about the 2 players, MPC and MPC-HC, especially considering they will both run without the other there. No offense but I don't really care who wrote it, when I ask that question I want to know what is dif between the players themselves.

One that I just figured out is that on MPC there is no check for hiding the playlist on fullscreen like there is on -HC version.

@Pavithran, it is possible, see "mpc/help/command line swithces". You edit(or add new)"open with"-command for the certain file type. Ie.in XP open: Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types/AVI File, press "Advanced".

I only wish that mpc could open DVD-image files (ie. iso, img,..) without having to mount the file (or installing NERO). If anyone knows a trick, please tell:)(VLC does it, I know)

I know this is not meant for a AV player.........

but is it possible to give mpc features for viewing images (like a slideshow) along with the ability to stertch 4:3 images to 16:9 (as for videos) and view it on a HDTV/normalTV as a slideshow ?

it would be nice!! hope it will be there in the next release

Very good but still, sometimes,I experience lagging when I'm watching AVI vids.I used the same file to be played in WMP and I dont see any lags.Media Player Classic is awesome.Fast responding unlike WMP which takes a while to play the song (maybe 2-3 sec or so..) but media player classic starts right away.I love that.

And there is another hiccup. The "Add to Playlist" option is not available for the media player classic. If there is one, things would be much easier.

Good luck,Your Awesomeness.

@marai: Media Player Classic considers the image as a multimedia file like any other. So when it displays the image, it does not play mp3, and when you press next, it stops displaying the image and plays the mp3. By the way, it would be a great idea to keep on displaying pictures while playing music...

If An Image file is placed in the playlist, it shows the picture( mostly folder.jpg ) which is really cool. But it just stays like that & stops the playlist until you manually press Next.

Please look into this :)

I am new to MPC but love it so far! I had to download ffdshow in order to play flvs and the instructions failed to mention that I would need to export the settings. I'm no genius but I figured it out myself. If I can do it anyone can!

My only problem is that the video will stop and the audio will continue when playing flv files. Since I have mismatched ram sticks (a 1gig and a 512mb) installed on my Frankenputer that is probably the cause.

Anyway, I love the basic light weight player and plan on figuring out the rest. It's worth it!

Hi
Been using this for years. VLC is more versatile for video but the sound is awful now, very choppy, I much prefer MPC at the moment.

I just read that MPC will now display PNG thumbnails of cover images. Is that embedded images? But why PNG? Everyone (iTunes, Winamp. Media Monkey etc. )else is using JPG. That would mean a separate set of files just for MPC...not practical AND that seems to go against one of the guiding principles of MPC doesn't it? ( which is to keep things small).

Having a database (or catalog of sorts) capability would make it bigger but would greatly improve the product. If it could piggyback on existing XML type DBs (e.g. use the MM or Winamp database if one is already present) then that would be even better.

All in all, I like the product just as it is even without these bells an whistles.

I would like that the button that appears on the taskbar on windows 7 to be the "next" button instead of jump forward. the rest is awesome.
Keep the good work guys.
