Movavi Video Converter 24.4.0

2.5 from 2 Reviews

Movavi Video Converter transforms videos between 180+ formats with GPU-accelerated encoding that delivers up to 79x faster conversions than standard software encoding.

The application combines format conversion, basic editing tools, and device-specific presets in a polished interface designed for users who prioritize speed and simplicity over advanced configuration options.

SuperSpeed GPU Acceleration

The headline feature separates Movavi from free alternatives like HandBrake and XMedia Recode.

SuperSpeed mode leverages NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPU hardware to dramatically reduce encoding times - particularly beneficial for batch conversions or large 4K files.

While NVEnc and VidCoder also support hardware encoding, Movavi automates GPU detection and optimization without manual configuration.

Comprehensive Format Support

Movavi handles virtually every consumer video format including MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WMV, WebM, and legacy formats that other converters may struggle with.

Audio extraction and conversion supports MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV, and other popular formats.

For specialized encoding needs like HEVC or AV1, dedicated tools such as the x265 Encoder or StaxRip provide more granular control over encoding parameters.

Device Presets and Mobile Optimization

Over 200 preset profiles target specific devices including iPhones, iPads, Android phones, Samsung TVs, PlayStation, Xbox, and various portable players.

This eliminates guesswork when preparing videos for mobile playback - simply select your device and Movavi handles resolution, bitrate, and codec settings automatically.

Users converting for specific devices will find this faster than configuring Shutter Encoder or MediaCoder presets manually.

Built-in Editing Tools

Basic editing capabilities include trimming, cutting, cropping, rotating, and merging video clips. Audio normalization, noise reduction, and video stabilization filters enhance output quality. While adequate for simple edits, users requiring advanced video editing should consider dedicated editors.

For MKV manipulation specifically, MKVToolNix handles splitting, merging, and metadata editing without re-encoding.

Trial Limitations

The free trial includes a significant limitation: converted videos display a watermark until you purchase the full version. User reviews confirm this behavior, making the trial best suited for testing compatibility and interface before purchasing rather than actual production use. If you need unrestricted video conversion without payment, free alternatives deliver comparable results.

Free Alternatives Worth Considering

For users who decide against purchasing, codecs.com hosts several capable alternatives:

  • HandBrake - Industry-standard open-source transcoder with excellent preset system.
  • XMedia Recode - Feature-rich converter with video passthrough and chapter editing.
  • Shutter Encoder - Professional-grade converter with extensive format support.
  • StaxRip - Advanced encoding tool with AviSynth integration.
  • VidCoder - Streamlined HandBrake frontend with batch processing.

System Requirements and Performance

Movavi Video Converter requires Windows 7 or later with DirectX 9 graphics support.

The 62MB installer completes quickly, though the installation process may offer additional software - decline these offers to maintain a clean system.

Resource usage is substantial during encoding operations, which is expected given the intensive GPU acceleration.

For older systems, lighter alternatives like AVI ReComp or basic codec-based workflows may prove more practical.

Playback After Conversion

After converting your videos, you will need a capable media player for playback. VLC Media Player handles virtually any format without additional codec installation. Power users preferring lightweight players should consider MPC-BE or PotPlayer for advanced rendering options and HDR support.

Movavi Video Converter serves users who value convenience over cost and want GPU-accelerated conversion without configuration complexity.

The device preset library and one-click workflow justify the price for high-volume conversions. However, technically inclined users will find free tools like HandBrake and XMedia Recode equally capable - sometimes more so - for specific encoding tasks.

It took over an hour per file it was converting. It stripped the audio from the videos I was converting, and it didn't support subtitles. Also the watermark.

It worked ok and was easy to use. It did however, have a flashing tag in the center of the converted file that read "MOVAVI TRIAL VERSION". You will have to buy the full version in order to eliminate this.
