Realtek Audio Console is free, but there is no normal installer for it - it arrives with the right Realtek driver, and this guide shows you how to get both.

Realtek Audio Console is the app where you set up speakers, headphones, front-panel jacks, microphone effects and the equalizer on PCs with onboard Realtek sound.
If it is missing from your Start menu, the cause is almost always the driver underneath it, not the app itself.
Below are the three ways to get it, from the easiest to the most hands-on.
First, check which Realtek driver you have
The console only works with Realtek's modern driver, called UAD (Universal Audio Driver). Older PCs running the legacy HD Audio driver get the old Realtek HD Audio Manager instead, and the console will never appear for them.
- Open Device Manager. Right-click the Start button and choose Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers. Look at the name of your Realtek device.
- Read the name. Realtek(R) Audio means you have the UAD driver and can use the console; Realtek High Definition Audio means you have the legacy driver and need to switch first.
No Realtek device at all?
Then your PC uses a different sound chip, a USB headset or your monitor's HDMI audio, and Realtek Audio Console is not the app you need.
Method 1: Get it from the Microsoft Store
This is the official route, and it is the right one if you already have the UAD driver. In the Store the app is listed as Realtek Audio Control, which is the same thing under its newer name.
- Open the Microsoft Store. Search for Realtek Audio Control.
- Click Get. Wait for it to install, then open it from the Start menu by typing Realtek.
If the Store will not let you install it, or says the app does not work on your device, Windows cannot see the matching Realtek driver component. Method 2 fixes that.
Method 2: Install the Realtek UAD driver
On most PCs, installing a current UAD driver brings the console with it - Windows fetches the app automatically once the driver tells it which one belongs to your hardware. Our Realtek HD Audio Codecs page carries both the ASUS UAD packages and a generic UAD build for everything else.
- Pick the right file. On an ASUS motherboard, take the ASUS UAD package that matches your board's audio branding; on any other PC, take the generic UAD build.
- Extract the archive. Windows 11 opens .7z files on its own; on Windows 10 use the free 7-Zip.
- Run the setup as administrator. Right-click the setup file inside the folder and choose Run as administrator.
- Restart your PC. Give Windows a few minutes online afterwards - the console often appears on its own, and if not, Method 1 will now work.
Coming from the legacy driver?
Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from Settings, then Apps, and restart before installing UAD. Two Realtek drivers fighting over one chip is the commonest cause of no sound after a switch, and Driver Store Explorer can clear out leftover packages Windows keeps reinstalling.
Laptop or branded desktop?
Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI and other makers often ship their own tuned Realtek driver. If the generic one sounds worse, take the audio driver from your maker's support page for your exact model.
Method 3: Use the offline installer
If the Store is blocked, broken or simply refuses, the same download page offers Realtek Audio Control as a standalone offline package. It needs the UAD driver from Method 2 to be installed first - on its own it will open to an error.
- Download the Realtek Audio Control offline file. It is listed under the alternative downloads on the Realtek download page.
- Extract it and run the installer as administrator. Then open Realtek Audio Console from the Start menu.
Fix 'Can't connect to RPC service'
This error means the console opened but cannot talk to the Realtek background service. It usually follows a Windows update or a driver that is older than the app.
- Restart the Realtek service. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, find Realtek Audio Universal Service, right-click it and choose Restart.
- Reset the app. In Settings, go to Apps, find Realtek Audio Control, open Advanced options and click Reset.
- Update the driver. If the error comes back, install the latest UAD driver from Method 2 - a newer app paired with an older driver is the usual mismatch.
What you can do in Realtek Audio Console
- Set up stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 speakers and test each one.
- Tell Windows what is plugged into which jack, or turn off front-panel jack detection when headphones and speakers keep swapping.
- Play sound through the front and rear jacks at the same time, as two separate devices.
- Switch on microphone noise suppression and echo cancellation where your chip supports them.
- Use the built-in equalizer and sound effects.
Who should look elsewhere
If you want a proper equalizer that works on every output, including USB and Bluetooth headphones, Equalizer APO is free and far more capable than the console's built-in one.
If what you are after is surround sound in headphones, Windows can already do that - see how to turn on spatial sound in Windows. Dolby Access adds Dolby Atmos on top, as a paid upgrade after a trial.
Quick questions
Is Realtek Audio Console free?
Yes. It is free from the Microsoft Store and free with the Realtek UAD driver, and there is no paid version.
Are Realtek Audio Console and Realtek Audio Control the same app?
Yes. Realtek Audio Control is the name used in the Microsoft Store, and many PCs still show it as Realtek Audio Console in the Start menu.
Is it the same as Realtek HD Audio Manager?
No. HD Audio Manager belongs to the old legacy driver, and Audio Console replaced it on the UAD driver. You get one or the other, never both.
Why did Realtek Audio Console disappear after a Windows update?
Windows Update sometimes swaps the Realtek driver for a plain version without the part that calls the console. Reinstall the UAD driver from Method 2 and it comes back.
Can I install it without the Microsoft Store?
Yes. Use the offline Realtek Audio Control package in Method 3, after the UAD driver is in place.
Does it work on Windows 10?
Yes. The console and the UAD driver both support Windows 10 and Windows 11.
The bottom line
Get the UAD driver right and Realtek Audio Console usually follows on its own. Tell us which method worked on your PC.
