I like K-lite a lot but I don't like the buttons on the bottom of the newer version of MPC-HC so I have to use an older version of MPC...
I had a problem playing .avi compressed with VP7. I solved it by adding the specific line of subtype (MEDIATYPE_video) to VP7 decompressor through MPC in Options/External filters. It was the same line MPC reported as missing.

K-Lite Codec Pack 5.7.0 Full, Standard and Basic

I'm a long time user of K-lite mega codec pack, but this version is terrible! it's full of bugs! When i try to open anything with homecinema classic, the player freezes for five seconds, then continues to play the file from 6 seconds onwards, but the playback stutters a bit. This happens for every single file be that avi, mp4, m2ts anything! I'm going back to version 4.9. which is the last stable version i've found. used v4.9 since it was released without a problem!!

Another very good codec pack is "Ace media codec pack"
I think they are not being as updated as this 1 though, but worked fine for my XP when I had that.
Pay attention if u have a 32 bit or 64bit os and get a pack accordingly
same problem as mike below, skipping audio on any movie file which contains mp3 audio. long term user of this codec pack, this is the first time i've had an issue. as greg suggested this is not a selected speaker config issue - any other suggestions? thanks everyone!
@Mike
You probably haven't set the correct speaker configuration. You can configure it with the Codec Tweak Tool, or during installation.
I downloaded the standard package just to watch movies online and the audio makes a weird scratching noise (sounds like the audio keeps skipping) along with the background music and I can't even hear the actors' voice. Anyone tell me how to fix it?
Hi, people. It solved some of my problem, but created another. I use MPC (or here I used MPC home cinema) and the player doesn't see multiple audio tracks. Only the first one. What should I tweak for the mpc to start seeing and switching between multiple audio tracks in mpeg2 files (vobs)? My previous MPC had this capability, but I uninstalled everything, when installing this new k-lite codec
For me it's perfect. I have used k-lite codec pack since 2009 and already recommended to my friends many times. The problem is some file types can't be displayed with an icon. Just like the .MKV (Matroska) format, It uses the generic picture of WMP.
Downloaded latest K-Lite Codec Pack Full so that Windows Media Player would play MP4's etc. Worked great. However now all my jpg picture files wont show thumbnails in any of the folders. All that shows is a generic picture thumbnail. I have tried various things to fix it but it looks like I'm going to have to uninstall K-Lite to try and sort it out.
Actually, I can play WMV files with Windows Media Player, Jet-Audio 7.1.9.4030 Plus VX, Real Player 11.0.5 but not Media Player Classic. Before, I used K-Lite 4.1.7 Full and everything is OK! Until I set up K-Lite 4.7.0 Full and I have such problems. I don't think "You need codecs from Microsoft to play WMV files. Those are normally bundled with Windows. Install "Windows Media Format Runtimes" and you should be able to play those files" is a solution! Thanks for reply!
Everything works fine, except for one thing. The .mov video files I added to Windows Movie Maker play, but there is no sound... the audio is missing. Can somebody tell me why this is?

Along with MPC Home Cinema this is the best media bundle available. We have been enjoying music & movies without need of any other packs. Best performance. Thanks

it doesn't play everything but it's really good,i still have VLC,just in case KLite fails
@Dlucks
That is probably a bug in the DivX browser plugin.
If you want to play the files with Media Player Classic, then you need to download them instead of streaming.
@Tom Bird
Go to the codecguide forum. They should be able to help you there.
decent pack, except that when divx streams a vid from the net the audio seems to be fast forwarded at 200k percent, and I dont know how to associate firefox with mediaplayer, any suggestions?
is one of the best versions

K-Lite Codec Pack 5.4.4 Full
I have been using K-lite for years now, almost no version had a problem. I installed the latest one and now mp4 files play as audio but the video is not recognized.
What is wrong? Should i just wait for the next version?
I don't know but opening movie files are too slow with this latest version 5.3.0. It was OK when 5.2.0 was installed.
The team is very helpful because they put back the DirectVobSub/VSFilter v2.33 to the 5.3.0 pack.
The Vsfilter v2.39 crashes with the Subtitleworkshop v2 / V4. Many people don't know the reason of the crash is the Vsfilter 2.39. I try newer vsfilters 2.34---2.39, but everyone freeze the Subtitleworkshop...
So... THANKS FOR THIS, please let it be in the newer versions!
@shaun
Report your problem on the Codec Guide support forum and they will get fixed.
It is very likely your problems are caused by bad drivers. That is not something the pack is responsible for.
The K-Lite FAQ also contains very useful help. I suggest you read that as well before blaming the pack.
@Theo Double
Windows should already by default be able to generate thumbnails for MPEG files. That is why there is no option for it in the pack.
"it is not recommended to install codec packs". Well i should take this advice and not installing k-lite... Caused so many problems with the system :/

Thanks for this amazing codec pack and all the extra features! I would like to ask for something.
Can you add mpeg (especially mpeg2) in the thumbnail options? I know a lot of people that have a big collection of mpeg2 files and they can't find a way to see thumbnails in windows explorer.
Thank you
this is, simply put, the best codec pack available. I recommend installing over a fresh install of Windows XP SP2
@Tim
You can find the solution for you .mov problem in the K-Lite FAQ. See here:

QT Lite + MediaLooks filter
WMV playback is done with codecs from Microsoft that come bundled with Windows. You will have to ask Microsoft for help on that.
downloaded this codec pack after having tried "Vista Codec Package 5.0.7". I am having the same problem with Klite 4.4.5 despite having installed the complete set.
While I am quite an experienced PC user (not afraid to edit registry entries, modify config files, etc.), I am not too familiar with codecs. Perhaps somebody here could help me troubleshoot the issue I am having.
I want to be able to play MOV (Quicktime) files made by my digital camera on Windows Media Player and particularly on Windows Media Center...so that I can play them on my TV through the use of my Windows Media Extender.
For some strange reason MOV files from my digital camera do not play on my Windows Vista Ultimate system unless I download and install Quicktime.
However Quicktime doesn't play within Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center, hence my interest in trying to find a code that will play MOV files within Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center.
I thought the K-Lite codec package would be able to do that, but it is not doing it in my case. Is there a particular setting that I need to choose, or do I need to modify the installation to install a particular component?
I am also having another problem (but of lesser importance since it is a unique case).
I have a wmv video that plays fine on Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center, but doesn't play on on my Windows Media Extender. Other wmv files play OK on the Windows Media Extender. Any ideas of what could be causing that?

FlyingNederlander
i keep getting an error message sayin that my media codec is out of date..does anybody know how to fix this problem??..please email me or rite bck on this website if you knows..cheers
John, this will certainly solve your problem. Be aware that you do need to use a different player, because QuickTime is not good at playing AVI files.
will this fix my problem?: my quicktime player isn't giving me any sound, but the video(.AVI) is playing. I don't want to mess up my drivers
@Squall
GSpot was not updated, it was removed. If you really want it get the Mega version of the pack.
The included MediaInfo tool supports much more file types than GSpot.
The changelogs on this website are often wrong. Visit codecguide .com to view the proper information.

Changelog states that Gspot is updated in klitecp 4.8.5 full, however it is missing completely from the installer options and is not installed at all.
Windows media player wouldn't play dvd's. Added the k-lite standard pack and now it does. excellent.
