Windows 11 Finally Lets You Customize the Right-Click Menu - Here's What's Coming

Windows 11's right-click menu is getting a cleanup, and this time you decide what stays in it.

Microsoft's 23 October Insider builds bring a shorter menu with a new settings page to customise it, plus new Start menu sizes and phone controls in Quick Settings.

It's in testing for now. Here's what's coming, and how to tame the menu today.

What Changes in the Right-Click Menu

The menu shows fewer items by default, which Microsoft says also helps it open faster. A new Customize menu entry takes you straight to Settings > Personalization > Context menu.

  • Turn commands on or off. Hide items like Send to or Create shortcut, or bring back missing ones like Print.
  • Put app extras in their place. Choose whether entries added by apps sit in the main menu, in a submenu, or nowhere.
  • Show the basics as words. Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Delete and Share can appear as a normal list instead of tiny icons.
  • Move Properties to the bottom, where most people expect it.

It also follows Microsoft's decision to drop eight Copilot actions from File Explorer - the same menu, getting lighter from two sides.

Also in These Builds

  • Start menu sizes. Pick Small, Large or Automatic. "Recommended" becomes "Recent", and you can hide any section, plus your name and picture.
  • Phone controls in Quick Settings. With a connected Android phone, you can turn on Do Not Disturb, change the ringer or make the phone ring to find it. iPhones only show status for now.
  • A built-in speed test in Quick Settings, so you no longer need a browser to check your connection.
  • Per-app privacy. Allow or block the camera, microphone and location for each desktop app.
  • A faster Settings home page.

When will you get it?

These features are only on Windows Insider test builds, and they're rolling out gradually even there. Microsoft hasn't given a date and warns that some features "might never be released". One known bug: Recall can go missing on some Copilot+ PCs after a clean install.

Tame the Menu Today

Until the new settings arrive, click Show more options at the bottom of the menu, or press Shift+F10, to open the full classic menu.

If you use PowerToys, tools like PowerRename and Image Resizer add their own entries, and you can switch each one off in PowerToys Settings. Our guide to what PowerToys can do explains which ones are worth keeping.

Quick questions

Can I customize the right-click menu in Windows 11?

Soon. New Insider builds add Settings > Personalization > Context menu, where you can choose which commands and app entries appear.

How do I get the old full right-click menu now?

Click Show more options at the bottom of the menu, or press Shift+F10 after selecting a file.

Which builds have the new menu?

Beta Channel build 26220.9757, released to Windows Insiders on 23 October 2026. It's rolling out gradually, so not every Insider sees it yet.

Will Windows 10 get these changes?

No. Microsoft is building them for Windows 11 only.

A shorter right-click menu you can shape yourself is on the way - and a couple of shortcuts make today's menu easier to live with.
