Bulk Image Downloader is a Windows tool that saves every full-sized image from a web gallery at once, following thumbnails to the originals, with a limited free trial and a one-off licence, and pairs well with Duplicate Photo Cleaner.
Bulk Image Downloader saves every full-sized image from a web gallery in one go, instead of you right-clicking them one at a time.
It is a Windows program that costs money after a limited free trial, and it earns that price on galleries where the page only shows small thumbnails.
Point it at a page, untick anything you do not want, and it downloads the rest into a folder.
What Bulk Image Downloader Actually Does - in Plain Terms
Most galleries show small preview images that link to the real photo. Saving the page or using a simple browser extension usually grabs those previews, not the full-sized pictures.
Bulk Image Downloader, usually shortened to BID, follows each thumbnail to the full-sized image behind it. It then shows you the results as a grid, so you can drop anything you do not need before it starts downloading.
- Gallery and social sites. Built-in support for Google image search, Flickr, DeviantArt, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, VK, image forums and thumbnail gallery sites.
- Videos too. It downloads directly linked video files such as MP4, MOV, AVI and WMV from the same pages.
- Browser buttons. Extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera send the page you are looking at straight to BID with a right-click.
- Queue Manager. Line up several galleries and let them download unattended, overnight if you like.
Downloading From Sites That Need a Login
Instagram, Facebook, DeviantArt and Reddit only show most content to signed-in users, so BID has its own built-in browser for logging in. Do this once per site before you scan anything from it.
- Press Ctrl+Alt+L, or click the browser icon in the BID toolbar, to open BID Site Login.
- Go to the site, sign in, and tick "remember me" or a similar option if there is one.
- Close that browser window, then paste the page address into BID and scan it.
Reddit is scanned through old.reddit.com, so log in there rather than on the new site. VK has its own link-up instead, under VK Login (Ctrl+Alt+V).
A fair-use reminder:
BID downloads what you can already see, but that does not make every image yours to reuse. Keep downloads for personal use, and check the site's terms and the photographer's rights before posting anything elsewhere.
What Is Free and What Costs Money
You can install BID and use it without paying, but the free version is deliberately limited. It shows nag messages and timed delays, and caps what it will do.
| Limit | Free version | Registered version |
|---|---|---|
| Images per gallery | 100 | Limit removed |
| Simultaneous downloads | 2 | Limit removed |
| Queue Manager jobs | 2 | Limit removed |
| Copies of BID open at once | 2 | Limit removed |
| Nag screens and delays | Yes | None |
A single-user licence is a one-off purchase, with a registration code that does not expire and works on all your own everyday PCs. It includes a year of free updates, after which you can pay for another year or simply keep using the last version you were entitled to, and there is a 30-day money-back guarantee.
What Changed in the Latest Versions
- 6.67. A quick fix for Queue Manager problems introduced in 6.66.
- 6.66. Facebook scanning stopped missing images on photo pages, Reddit images and videos download again, and VK support works again.
- 6.65. Facebook fixes for profile pictures being saved instead of full-sized images, plus support for more auction sites.
Site support changes often, because sites change how they serve images. If a gallery stops working, check for a newer version before assuming BID is broken.
Before You Install
BID runs on Windows 8, 10 and 11, with separate 64-bit and 32-bit installers on the Bulk Image Downloader download page. Most PCs want the 64-bit file.
Downloaded images often arrive as WebP or HEIC files. If Windows will not show them, the WebP Codec and HEIF Image Extensions add the missing support.
Who Should Look Elsewhere
The tell is the page itself. If the pictures already show at full size and there are only a few dozen of them, a free browser extension that saves all images on a page will do the job without a licence.
BID is also images-first. For video from YouTube and similar streaming sites, 4K Video Downloader is the better fit, and general file downloads are faster through a download manager such as Free Download Manager.
Tools for Sorting What You Downloaded
Big galleries mean duplicates. Duplicate Photo Cleaner finds repeated and near-identical pictures so you can clear them out in one pass.
To shrink or convert a whole folder at once, FastStone Photo Resizer and Converseen batch-resize, rename and change formats.
ExifTool reads and edits the date, camera and location details stored inside each photo, and GIMP handles proper editing.
The Graphics category has the rest of the image tools.
Quick questions
Is Bulk Image Downloader free?
Not fully. It installs and runs without paying, but the free version is limited to 100 images per gallery and two downloads at a time, with nag screens. A one-off licence removes the limits.
Can it download from Instagram and Facebook?
Yes, once you have logged into the site through BID Site Login (Ctrl+Alt+L). Close that login window before scanning, and BID uses your signed-in session.
Why did a site stop working in BID?
Sites change how they serve images, which breaks the scanner until BID is updated. Install the newest version first, and log in again through BID Site Login if the site needs an account.
Does it download videos?
It downloads video files that a page links to directly, such as MP4 or MOV. For streaming sites like YouTube, use 4K Video Downloader instead.
Do I need to pay again for updates?
A licence includes one year of free updates. After that you can buy another year, or keep using the last version released within your update period, which never stops working.
Which Windows versions does it support?
Windows 8, 10 and 11, in 64-bit and 32-bit builds.
