No longer developed

MainConcept DV Codec is no longer updated by its developer - the last version here is from 2005. It may still run, but it gets no fixes for newer Windows versions or formats.

Maintained alternatives that may do the same job:

The MainConcept DV Codec ensures both excellent image quality and fast rendering speed.

At the same time, it is compatible with any application supporting standard Video for Windows codecs.

Some of the functions of the MainConcept DV Codec are Clamb YUV to ITU601r, RGB 16-235, 16:9 and changing fields order. By using the setting “Fastest”, the encoding will be performed in less time, but video quality will be affected.

There is also a decoding section of this program, which comprises most of the encoding parameters, plus preview quality, YUY2 and UYVY disabling.

With MainConcept DV Codec, you will avoid potential quality losses and edit your DV files trouble free.

2/5Poor

I put 'BAD' not because of the product, which has a good review generally, but rather that it creeps under the radar on 'free' ware sites, then whacks you for £45 if you want to use it properly. A quick 5 minute demo is hardly 'sharing' either. It might as well be in the same category as 'scam' ware when they use such underhand marketing methods.

I hate this crap form of selling.

5/5Excellent

This file, which I got from FREE Codecs, says it wants a serial number. Not very free, is it? Without one, it says it will enter "demo" mode. I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound like free to me. I think I'll pass on the spyware, thanks.
