YouTube ReVanced - ReVanced Manager 2.7.0 dev

YouTube Vanced is gone, and ReVanced is the project that replaced it.

Vanced shut down in March 2022 after Google sent its developers a legal notice, so every Vanced APK still around is years out of date.

ReVanced brought the idea back with a different method: you patch the official YouTube app yourself, on your own phone.

The tool that does it is ReVanced Manager, free and open source, and the current stable version is 2.6.0 from April 2026. Nobody hands you a ready-modified app, which is exactly why the project has lasted.

What ReVanced Adds to YouTube

• No ads - video and feed ads are blocked.
• Background play - audio keeps going with the screen off or in another app, plus picture-in-picture.
• SponsorBlock - skips sponsor segments, using timestamps other viewers submit.
• Return YouTube Dislike - brings back the dislike count.
• Layout control - hide Shorts and other clutter, set a default quality and playback speed.

Every patch is a switch you can turn on or off before patching. ReVanced works on more than YouTube, too, including YouTube Music.

What You Need Before You Start

• An Android phone or tablet - Android TV support is in testing in the development builds.
• Permission to install apps from outside the Play Store - Android asks the first time you open the APK.
• ReVanced GmsCore, if your phone is not rooted, which covers most phones. The patched app runs under a different package name, and GmsCore is what lets it sign in to your Google account.

How to Patch YouTube

1. Install the ReVanced Manager APK and, on a phone without root, ReVanced GmsCore.
2. Open the Manager and go to the Apps tab.
3. Choose YouTube. The Manager can fetch the APK through its downloaders, or you can pick one from your phone's storage.
4. Leave the recommended patches selected. Tap Reset if you changed them and want the defaults back.
5. Tap Patch, wait for it to finish, then tap Install.
6. Open the new YouTube icon and sign in through GmsCore.

Patches are written for particular YouTube versions. If the Manager points you to a version, use that one rather than the newest YouTube, as a mismatch is the usual reason patching fails.

Pre-Patched APKs and Staying Safe

ReVanced does not publish ready-patched YouTube APKs. Any pre-patched file is someone else's build, so patch your own whenever you can.

Before installing any APK, run it through our free APK Checker to see what it contains. Our guide to installing an APK safely covers the rest.

It is also a grey area. A patched YouTube breaks YouTube's terms of service, and the official way to get no ads and background play is YouTube Premium.

When an Update Breaks Something

Because the patched app has its own package name, the Play Store will not overwrite it, but it will not update it either.

When something stops working, update the Manager, let it fetch the newest patches and patch again. YouTube changes often, so expect to do this every few months.

Who Should Look Elsewhere

If you would rather not patch anything, stick with the official YouTube app, and YouTube Music for listening.

If what you really want is to save videos for offline viewing, 4K Video Downloader for Android does that on a phone. On a PC, yt-dlp is the free command-line favourite.

There is no ReVanced for iPhone or iPad. It is Android only.
