DStv Stream is MultiChoice's official app for watching DStv over the internet, carrying the live channels, catch-up and downloads your package pays for on Android, smart TVs and PC, with streaming-only packages that need no dish.
DStv Stream is how MultiChoice puts DStv on screens that never had a dish pointed at them.
It carries the same channels your package already pays for, plus catch-up and downloads.
The app itself is free, and there are now streaming-only packages, so a decoder is optional.
What DStv Stream Actually Does
Sign in with your DStv Connect ID and the app builds your channel list from the package you pay for. Live TV, the TV guide, catch-up and recordings all sit in one place.
You can register up to five devices on one account, and download up to 25 shows to watch offline. DStv says you can watch on your TV and stream on two other devices at the same time.
If you have no DStv subscription at all, you can still sign up for free and watch a small selection of free live channels.
You No Longer Need a Decoder
Since 17 September 2026, every DStv package in South Africa has a streaming-only price, starting at R30 a month for EasyView and running to R799 for Premium. Sport sits at R399 and Movies & Series at R500.
Any package can also be split between two people, which halves what each pays. Prices differ in Nigeria, Kenya and the other countries DStv serves, so check the price on DStv's own site before you sign up.
Where It Runs
This download is the Android version, which needs Android 8.0 or newer. There are also apps for iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 or newer), Samsung TVs (Tizen 4.0+), LG (webOS 4.0+), Hisense (VIDAA U3+), Apple TV, Xbox and DStv's own Streama and Explora Ultra boxes.
On a computer, there is nothing to install - the website plays the same channels in a browser.
Cheap Android boxes are the common failure.
DStv Stream only runs on Play Protect certified devices, so many low-cost Android TV boxes either never show the app or refuse to play. Our Play Services Check tells you what your device is missing.
What It Will Not Do
It is not an IPTV player. There is no way to load an M3U playlist or an Xtream Codes login into it, and DStv channels cannot be added to a player such as TiviMate.
Live TV and catch-up are also geo-blocked to the countries DStv serves, so the app stops playing live channels when you travel outside them.

Who Should Look Elsewhere
The tell is simple: if you have no DStv account and you are not in a country DStv serves, this app has almost nothing to show you.

Installing It Safely
Take it from Google Play, your TV's own store, or the file on this page. Anything advertised as a modded, cracked or premium-unlocked DStv app is a pirate build, and a well-known way to pick up malware.

Is DStv Stream free?
The app is free to install and includes a few free live channels. Everything else needs a DStv package, whether streaming-only or with a decoder.
Do I need a decoder or a dish?
No. DStv now sells streaming-only packages, and your existing subscription already includes streaming at no extra cost.
Can I load an M3U playlist into it?
No. It only plays DStv's own channels. For playlists you need an IPTV player instead.
Why is the app missing from my Android TV box?
The box is almost certainly not Play Protect certified, and DStv Stream is not offered on uncertified devices.
Does it work when I travel?
Live TV and catch-up are locked to the countries DStv serves. Downloading shows before you leave is the safer plan.
How many devices can use one account?
Five registered devices, with your TV plus two other screens streaming at the same time.
