I had 30 old .rm files and all of them converted except 1 (the largest one 2MB). All files that converted were between 350K - 900K in size.
When the program hit the corrupt file, it posted the error: Cannot read from file source!
Then at the bottom it said "Please update to DirectX 8.1" - I think it safe to say that the problem had nothing to do with Direct-X as it worked fine on all my other files.
Thank you Mr. Author!

I have windows 7 32 bit and it asks for a direct X 8.1.
In other words, it doesn't work so don't waste your time until solution...

Very good program. Depending on what you're looking for you can convert .rm to .mp3 using various bit rates; anywhere from 8 - 320, which is great.
BTW: from what I've read, 320 kbps gives quality virtually indistinguishable from original CDs, while 128 kbps is typical for musical MP3s and quality podcasts.

It showed me the message that my rm files has been successfully converted. But the output size was only 1 kb. It did not play the converted files.

I use this all the time to convert programmes downloaded from the BBC in order to listen to them on my mp3 player.
It's only slow if you have a slow pc, plus I believe there is a 'speed limit' which going above would only produce errors. This principle applies to burning cds and dvds too of course.
In comparison with the Boilsoft product it's not in the least bit inferior. In fact this one has more control over setting the bit rate if my memory serves me correctly.
I have had some problems in the past like the previous commentator with regard to a request to update DirectX but this turned out to be erroneous and I tracked the problem down to another piece of software that uninstalled pcouffin drivers. Reinstalling this other soft got Free RM to MP3 Converter working again. However I was unable to replicate this by installing/uninstalling the pcouffin drivers by themselves. I shall continue to work on a simple fix for my own peace of mind. If anyone has any addition input on this please add your comments.
Yes it can be a little temperamental but when it works, which is most of the time, it's excellent.
Recommended all the same :)

Good to hav software which doesn't require any license, and have unlimited rm to mp3, and also get full songs in mp3 format.
It take a long time to convert, and also the size increase by 10 times when converted
Overall Good for novice users !!

Suddenly this software became demand DirectX new version on computer and refuse to convert.
It was successful earlier. The audio-file is the data only, simply analyze these data and convert regardles of DirectX. It's pity
