Using quicktiem alternative 2.5.1 on MCE 2005 / XP and again like others no sound in MCE or WMP 11. Sound works in Media Player Classic. The files in question are MPEG 4 MOV files from a Kodak camera and the audio portion reports back U-Law codec with ADPCM Codec Family. Any help would be appreciated!
I've been using an older version for quite a long time without any problems. Did a clean-up of my pc (format) and after a few days I installed the latest version of QT alt.
Before the clean-up I could "save as source" without problems. Now there's the "PRO" icon in front of those options and I can't "Save as source" or "Save as QT movie" any more. It requests me to buy the pro version of quicktime.
Uninstalled and reinstalled it, but no success. Can't get back those options.
Anyone who knows how to get those options "Save as source" back? Are these options blocked since the latest version?
QT Alternative plays fine on my Vista Home Premium desktop most of the time with m4v files.
However, on my Vista Home Premium laptop I keep getting errors and the player closes. I have reinstalled and redownloaded several times, run it as Admin in XP compatibility mode, changed permissions, etc., etc., etc. Nothing has worked to get it to run consistently.
Sometimes it runs OK and other the error comes the minute I open a m4v file and that is the type of file I usually run.
@Max
QuickTime Alternative is not meant to be used together with QuickTime. Hence the name. Duh.
Uninstall both and you should be able to install QuickTime properly again.
QuickTime Alternative ruined QuickTime forever on my computer. I thought it would be a good alternative at first, but now I can't run QuickTime because it always gets reinstalled in the QuickTime Alternative folder, and everytime I open a QuickTime video on Firefox, it advises me to restart Firefox and normally goes wrong! DAMN YOU, QUICKTIME ALTERNATIVE!!!
@everyone
The purpose of QuickTime Alternative is to play QT files in your BROWSER.
If you want to play QT files in a DirectShow PLAYER you should install the K-Lite Codec Pack (Standard version is enough).
Can someone tell me why CoreAVC & CoreAAC directshow filters have been removed since v.1.81?
With the latest versions (2.2.0, 2.3.0) I'm not able to play HD movs, while with 1.81 all works fine cause CoreAVC & CoreAAC DS Filters are still there.
Administrator's Note: Why don't you buy the software from coreavc .com?
Unable to get this version to work with Vista Ultimate or Home Premium. 1.81 worked fine...this one doesn't launch when I click on trailer link.
My recommendation...go find 1.81 somewhere on net.
Great I cannot even play hd trailers from the apple site, nor that i can even download them.
Apple just $uck$ with their bloat player and it's the same with this project now (it used to be great back in time).
QT alternative 2.2.0 cannot be installed in a W2K box; an error message pops up syaing that it reqiores XP or later for installation.
I am very unhappy about this, sic!
Is this for real. I thought the apple company pulled the plug for this project?
Does QuickTime Alternative 2.2.0 plays without any problems?
just letting everyone know, the latest version (1.90) is NOT meant to work with windows media player classic or any other player. the folks at Apple have shut down this project because they're a bunch of douchebags.
Suddenly started crashing when I opened .mov files. I installed the latest version, 1.90, still wasn't working. I enabled safe mode in the config panel, and now works!
This project seems to be dead... For everyone having the problems I suggest just download the official QT package from Apple's site (this is what I did after using QT Alternative for 2 years) and use it for now - it's not really as bad as most people say about it and every QT movie on just about every webpage actually plays perfectly.
1.90 seems to be very broken... Cant play half my old mov files and none of the current files from quicktime trailers will load...
Dont know what they done but they broke it.
First time using it. I am running Vista Home Premium. I have installed the latest K-lite codec pack full. And then I attempt to install quicktimealt and quicktimealt lite, both versions installed fine, but when I try running .mov files, the audio works but the video just f**ks up. Basically it freezes, then stretches to the video size and remains blank with a frozen image of before it froze. Anyone have any ideas?
The 1.81 version was great. Updating to 1.90 gave me stupid problems. Why is there no prompt asking me if I want to make WMP to the default player for Quicktime files? Why doesn't WMP11 recognize the codecs? Why doesn't this codecpack work at all!?

MOV files work bad on my Asus A8Jr notebook. They have awful pixelization and they are working slowly. Removing DS mode with .hdmov files is also bad idea - this was only way to play HD movies on my equipment.
Using 1.72, the video works fine on XP SP2 both IE 6.0.2900 and Firefox 1.5.0.5, but the audio skips badly on both browsers when attempting to view any of the insturctional videos on lynda .com:
Pls, can anyone help me? Why there is no sound when i play 3GP video clips?
Before 1.81 i used 1.43 version and it was perfect.
I don't want to go back to the old version 'cause 1.81 has support for HD movie.
Somebody?
Hi guys, for those who have a persistent problem crashing FF when watching an embedded QT movie: to me has helped disabling DirectDraw acceleration in QT settings. It seems that it's caused by latest Nvidia drivers (162.18) (of course if you have the Nvidia videocard:).
I like QuickTime Alternative just fine. It is wonderful for us that use older computers with older versions of Windows (mine being Windows 2000 Pro). I just have one tiny problem with where it installed Media Player Classic. I thought the installer was going to install it in the directory that I installed QuickTime Alternative (D drive), but it landed up on C drive. I partition my hard drive for general technical interests. I just wanted to request that future versions of QTA install everything in the same place in which I wanted it to be installed. Thank you for your time.
This particular version is giving me some problems w/ IE7 running on Vista x64 Ultimate. Nothing that would make me install the ultra choppy full version that is said to resolve my issue, but still I would like to see an updated version w/ the latest codec.
The issue I am having is blank menus on all my videos, the playback is still fine, and the menus are still there (if I click on the blank spaces I can get pause/stop/and even the seek to work, but instead of the gray colored buttons I get a black line (took a shot of the problem: http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/7981/captureae8.jpg).
Anyway, I like very much this alternative since the QuickTime Player is the crapiest thing I have ever seen (at least the windows version).
I install 1.81 and Firefox crash instantly whenever I open mov within the browser. Then I thought I could uninstall it and switch back to the original apple quicktime player, but I found that the crash still persist, it seems that my system is messed up, and now I have no way open any mov within the browser...anyone know what's going go??
Need an update. Quicktime 7.2 just released.
While I'm typing, have had zero problems with current version in Firefox or IE, don't know what all these other commenters doing wrong.
QT 7.1.6 is very buggy. So everyone who is having crashing troubles with QTA 1.81 should downgrade to QTA 1.80
QT Alternative is usually very good but this release is terrible. Quicktime does not work in any web browser nor does it work in Media Player Classic. An update is badly needed.
same problem for me too, it crashes firefox , media player classic , please fix the problem or at least give us some instructions to do it ourself

Crashes all the time in Firefox 2.0.0.3. I have noticed a major slow down after installing the latest version. Firefox has strange behavior: when I open a link in a tab, it takes 100% of CPU. I didn't have this issue before installing QT Lite v 1.81.

Crashs Firefox 2.0.0.3 when try open or playback any QT, MP3 or other File in a Firefox window

I m unable to play HD trailers from yahoo movies....... PLZ HELP :(
Answer:
I have ver 1.77 and I had to play with it a little while. Double clicking the file will not bring up Media Player Claccic (MPC) but I had to open it through MPC or drag the file over to the program and release the draged file and it will play it put heres the catch on my system it plays it for about 8-10 seconds then stop I thing you wait a little while about a 1 min - 45 sec and it'll start back up and be playing in pause mode.

The latest version 1.78 failed to play .mov file downloaded from the camera; the playback started, but in ~1 second the picture stalled, though the slider was moving ahead. I then uninstalled 1.78, installed 1.56, and then it played ok in media player.
Quicktime fails to run local files on Vista. I tried Quicktime Alternative - that fails too. I guess I'll have to wait for Apple to sort themselves out...

IS it possible to have both QT alt and CoreAVC installed at the same time?
It seems i have there 2 choices:
1. QT Alt installed: Rubbish playback of local files, but i can watch embeddded files without a problem, or...
2. I Get rid of QT ALT, and have only CoreAVC installed. That way i can enjoy 1080P Without dropping frames. Is there a way to "prefer" CoreAVC to Apples crudd implementation of h264?
