Microsoft Clipchamp is Microsoft's free drag-and-drop video editor for Windows 11 and 10, with captions, templates, stock media and AI voiceovers, and its free plan exports videos up to 1080p with no watermark.
Microsoft Clipchamp is the video editor Microsoft now builds into Windows, and if you run Windows 11 it is probably on your PC already.
It is made for quick, good-looking videos rather than film projects: drop clips on a timeline, trim them, add captions and music, and export.

Already on Your PC? Check Before You Download
On Windows 11, type Clipchamp into the Start menu search. If it shows up, you already have it, and the Microsoft Store keeps it updated for you.
The download here is for everyone else: Windows 10 PCs that never got it, PCs where it was removed, and anyone who wants the install file itself. It needs Windows 10 version 1903 or newer, or Windows 11.
What Clipchamp Actually Does - in Plain Terms
Clipchamp gives you a simple multi-track timeline. You drop in video, photos, music and text, cut and rearrange them, then add transitions, filters, stickers and titles.
It comes with templates and a library of free stock video, images and music, so a birthday video or a short social clip can come together without hunting for material. The AI tools are free too: automatic subtitles, text-to-speech voiceovers and silence removal.
You can record your screen or webcam straight into a project. Projects are backed up to OneDrive, so you can pick up where you left off on another PC.

Most people never need to pay. Premium comes with a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription rather than as a separate purchase.

Work and school accounts get Clipchamp through their organisation's Microsoft 365 plan instead. There, the Windows app only works if the administrator has switched it on.
The App Is a Window Onto the Online Editor
The Clipchamp app is a frame around the Clipchamp editor that runs on the web, shown through the same engine as the Edge browser. That is why it asks you to sign in with a Microsoft account and needs an internet connection to load.
It also explains two things people notice. New features turn up without an app update, and if the window opens blank, repairing or reinstalling the Edge WebView2 Runtime usually fixes it.
Will Your PC Run It Smoothly?
Microsoft's own advice is at least 8GB of RAM, with 16GB better, plus a 64-bit PC and a recent graphics card. That is twice the 4GB Windows 11 itself asks for.
Below that it still opens, but expect slow previews, freezing or crashes on longer projects. Microsoft's tip for 4K footage is to shrink it to 1080p before importing, which free HandBrake does in a few clicks.

On a Windows on Arm laptop, use the Microsoft Store version. The support files on the download page are for 64-bit Intel and AMD PCs.
Installing the Offline Package
Double-click the .msixbundle and Windows opens App Installer, which does the rest. If it stops with a message about a missing dependency or framework, or error 0x80073CF3, the PC lacks one of Microsoft's support packages.
- Download the three dependency files. Put them in the same folder as the Clipchamp package.
- Open Terminal in that folder. Right-click an empty spot in the folder and choose Open in Terminal.
- Install the support packages. Paste Get-ChildItem *.appx, *.msix | ForEach-Object { Add-AppxPackage $_.FullName } and press Enter.
- Install Clipchamp. Double-click the .msixbundle again and click Install.
If that feels like too much, the Microsoft Store version sorts all of this out by itself.
Files That Will Not Import or Play
Clipchamp leans on Windows for some video formats. Phone videos recorded in HEVC need the free HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer, and AV1 clips need the AV1 Video Extension.
Our codec checker tests HEVC and AV1 decoding in Edge, the same engine Clipchamp runs in. If you only want to watch a clip that will not open, VLC Media Player plays it with nothing extra installed.
Who Should Look Elsewhere
The tell is in your project, not the app. If you need proper colour grading, multi-camera editing or an editor that works with no internet at all, Clipchamp will run out before you do.

Can I uninstall Clipchamp from Windows 11?
Yes. Open Settings, go to Apps and then Installed apps, click the three dots next to Clipchamp and choose Uninstall. You can reinstall it from the Microsoft Store or from here at any time.
Why is an older 3.1 version on the download page?
It is the one build that installs without the extra support packages, and it opens the same online editor as the current app. Use it only if 4.7.10030.0 will not install.
