Screenpresso 2.2.4

Screenpresso is a screen capture and recording tool for Windows that handles everything from quick screenshots to full HD video recordings with audio.

Screenpresso 2.2.2 represents a major overhaul with a completely rewritten capture engine, GPU-accelerated video recording up to 4K at 60 frames per second, and built-in AI editing powered by Google Gemini.

If you need to document software, create tutorials, or share visual feedback with your team, Screenpresso delivers professional results without requiring separate editing software.

If you just need a quick screenshot without installing anything, the Screen Capture Tool on Convertico lets you capture your screen directly in the browser - no downloads required.

What Changed in Version 2.2.3

The biggest change in this release is under the hood. Screenpresso now uses your graphics card for both screenshots and video recording instead of relying on the CPU.

This GPU-based approach means faster captures, lower memory usage, and smoother 4K recordings even on mid-range hardware.

Window captures have also been improved - if you click a window with a custom shape (rounded corners, for example), Screenpresso now saves a clean rectangle with transparent corners instead of the messy black backgrounds from earlier versions.

HDR screen support has been fixed as well. Screenshots and recordings from HDR displays no longer appear washed out or overly bright, which was a common complaint in previous versions. The scrolling capture engine has been reworked for better image stitching, and a new option lets you automatically hide desktop icons during capture for cleaner results.

For video recording, Screenpresso now supports 4K at 60fps in high quality (Pro), and it is the only capture tool that supports GPU-based recording across multiple screens simultaneously. HEVC (H.265) recording has been added as an optional codec, producing smaller MP4 files at better quality than standard H.264.

If you work with HEVC content regularly, you may also want the HEVC Video Extension for native Windows playback of your recordings, or check the free HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer package for compatible hardware.

Built-in Editor and AI Features

Screenpresso includes an integrated image editor where you can annotate screenshots with arrows, text, highlights, callouts, and blur effects directly after capture.

The Pro version introduces automatic detection and blurring of sensitive content like email addresses, credit card numbers, IP addresses, and API keys - both in screenshots and real-time during video recording. You can selectively remove blurred sections later in the editor if needed.

New in this version is Google Gemini AI integration, which lets you use AI prompts to modify your screenshots directly inside the built-in editor. IT administrators can disable this feature entirely through the Windows Registry using the "NoAI" policy key.

Speech-to-Text and Audio Recording

The Pro version now supports automatic subtitle generation during screen recording. Screenpresso listens to your voice while recording and creates an SRT subtitle file alongside your MP4. You can edit the SRT file with any text editor afterward, or merge the subtitles permanently into the video using the built-in video editor.

Microphone recording quality has been upgraded to 48,000Hz mono with a basic noise gate for reducing background noise, while system audio loopback now records in stereo.

Sharing and Workflow Integration

Screenpresso supports direct sharing to email, cloud storage services, Dropbox, and Linear. The 2.2.2 update fixes token expiration issues that previously forced frequent re-authorization with cloud providers. A network proxy fix also resolves connectivity problems that some corporate users experienced. Built-in Evernote and Twitter sharing have been removed, while the AWS, Google, and SSH libraries have been updated to their latest versions.

For users who need more advanced recording workflows, OBS Studio handles multi-source scene composition and live streaming, while ShareX offers extensive automation and upload options for screenshot-heavy workflows. If your focus is creating GIF content from screen recordings, ScreenToGif specializes in frame-by-frame GIF editing with direct export to GIF, MP4, or APNG formats.

System Requirements and Privacy

Screenpresso 2.2.2 requires Windows 10 build 20348 (May 2021) or later. Users on older Windows versions should stay on their current Screenpresso version.

The application now follows Windows privacy best practices, using newer APIs that request feature-by-feature permissions for screen capture, file access, microphone, and webcam.

The third-party Tesseract OCR engine has been removed due to security concerns, and Screenpresso now relies exclusively on the built-in Windows OCR. FFmpeg has been updated to version 8.0 and AVI recording support has been dropped.

Lightweight Alternatives

If Screenpresso feels like more than you need, Kalmuri is a portable screenshot and recording tool that runs from a USB drive with zero installation.

FastStone Capture provides focused screenshot capabilities with scrolling capture and annotation tools. For professional documentation workflows, Snagit offers template-based capture profiles and batch processing.

The free Screenshot Captor is another solid option with extensive editing tools and multi-monitor support, and TechSmith Capture covers quick image and video sharing for lighter workloads.
