Vibe is the new name for Le Chat, the AI assistant built by French company Mistral AI, answering questions, researching, generating images and handling coding work on Android, free to use under EU privacy law with an optional Pro tier.
If you went looking for Le Chat and landed on something called Vibe, you are in the right place.
Mistral renamed the app in late May 2026 and carried everything across untouched - your old chats, your settings and your subscription all survived the change.
It is free to start, it runs on almost any Android phone, and it is built in France, which is the reason most people pick it over the American and Chinese alternatives.
Why Le Chat Is Now Vibe
Nothing was taken away. Mistral folded its separate tools into one app and gave the result a single name, so what used to be several products is now one login and one plan.
Two of those tools are worth knowing by name. Work Mode connects to Google Workspace, Outlook, SharePoint, Slack and GitHub and carries out multi-step tasks once you approve them, and Code Mode runs proper coding sessions rather than just printing code into a chat window.
For everyday use it feels exactly like Le Chat did with a new icon. In the Play Store it is listed as "Vibe by Mistral (ex-Le Chat)", and that is the official app.
What It Actually Does
It answers questions, writes and summarises, and works through problems with you, which is what any modern assistant does. What it does differently is speed and sourcing.
Flash Answers is Mistral's name for its fast-response mode, and rather than relying only on what the model memorised in training, Vibe searches the live web and news sources as it answers. That is the difference between a useful reply and a confident one about something that changed last week.
Deep Research, Voice and Images
Deep Research reads across multiple sources and hands back an organised write-up, which is the part that saves real time - it is a dozen browser tabs you did not have to open.
Voice mode lets you talk instead of type, across a wide range of languages, and image generation and editing are built in, so you can make a picture and then change the background or swap an object without leaving the conversation.
Projects and Memory
Projects group related chats, files and notes into one space, so a holiday you are planning or a subject you are researching stays together instead of scattering across old conversations.
Memory lets the app hold on to your preferences between sessions, which mostly shows up as repeating yourself less. Both matter more the longer you use it and neither is worth much on day one.

The number that makes the argument is $14.99 against $20 for both ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro, which makes this the cheapest premium tier any of the major providers sells. The free tier is a real product rather than a trial, and most people never pay.
The Privacy Angle
Vibe is built in France, so your conversations sit under European privacy law rather than being routed through jurisdictions with looser rules. For anyone who has hesitated over where their AI chats end up, that is the practical reason to choose a European option.
Worth keeping in proportion. No AI service is a magic shield, and everything you type still leaves your phone and lands on somebody's server. EU jurisdiction is a meaningful difference from the American and Chinese alternatives, not an exemption from the trade-off.
Who It Is For - and Who Should Look Elsewhere
It is a strong all-rounder for everyday questions, writing and light research, and the fastest of the major assistants at giving you something usable quickly.

If you would rather compare several models than commit to one, Poe and Monica AI both put a handful of assistants behind a single login.
ChatGPT remains the broadest of them and runs the same free-plus-paid shape at a higher price.

Before You Install
Vibe needs Android 7.0 or newer, which is an unusually low bar in 2026 and means it will run on phones most assistants have given up on.
