Intel Graphics Software is the control panel for Intel Arc and built-in Intel graphics, and the app that replaced the retired Arc Control.
Intel Arc Control is finished. Intel has marked it End Of Life, which means no more updates and no more fixes, and the older Intel Graphics Command Center is now down to critical patches only.
Intel Graphics Software is what took over from both, and build 26.18.2353.0 is the current one.
It handles graphics settings, per-game profiles, performance monitoring, tuning and driver checks from a single window.
Install the Driver First - This Part Matters
This is an app, not a driver. It does not install graphics support, it controls graphics support that is already there.
Intel Graphics Software needs an Intel graphics driver at version 32.0.101.6325 or newer before it will run. Install it on a machine without that and it will simply refuse to open, which is the single most common complaint about it and the easiest one to avoid.
Sort the driver first from the Intel Graphics Driver listing, then come back here. Not sure which version is on your machine? GPU-Z shows the loaded driver version in its first tab, and CPU-Z will confirm which processor and graphics you are working with.
What Replaced What
Intel has shipped three graphics control apps in seven years, and the names are close enough to be genuinely confusing. Here is the plain version.
- Intel Graphics Command Center, from November 2018. Display settings, resolution, refresh rate, basic video controls. Still works, still in the Microsoft Store, but Intel only ships critical legacy fixes for it now.
- Intel Arc Control, from March 2022. Added driver downloads, game streaming and tuning for Arc cards. Now End Of Life with no further changes at all.
- Intel Graphics Software, from November 2024. The current one, and the only one still getting new features. Everything Arc Control did, plus finer overclocking control and low latency mode.
You are allowed to keep using the old apps if you prefer them. Intel says so directly. But every improvement from here lands in Graphics Software, so staying on Arc Control means slowly falling behind for no benefit.
What You Actually Get
- Per-app profiles. Save settings for each game, and the app applies them the moment you switch to it. No more adjusting sliders before every session.
- Display controls. Variable refresh rate, color settings, scaling modes and display power saving, gathered in one place instead of scattered across Windows settings.
- Graphics tuning. Image sharpening, adaptive tessellation, frame synchronization and low latency mode. The last two are aimed at older DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 games.
- XeSS Frame Generation override. Forces Intel's AI frame generation into supported titles to lift framerates.
- Live telemetry. FPS, memory use, clock speed, temperature and voltage, readable while you play.
- Overclocking and fan control. Frequency, voltage, fan curves, power and thermal limits.
- Driver update checks. It tells you when a newer Intel driver is out, which is the least painful way to stay current.
Why Some Features Are Missing On Your PC
If you open the app and half the list above is not there, nothing is broken. Feature availability depends on the hardware underneath.
Overclocking and fan control are Arc-only. On a laptop with built-in Intel graphics, those panels will not appear, because there is no fan curve or voltage rail for the app to reach. That is the single most reported "bug" with this software and it is not a bug.
Tuning options also vary by graphics generation, so two machines both running the app can show different menus. Worth knowing before you go looking for a setting a video tutorial promised you.
System Requirements
- Windows 10 version 22H2 or newer, or Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer.
- Intel Xe Plus Graphics version 11 or newer, or an Intel Arc dedicated graphics card.
- Intel graphics driver 32.0.101.6325 WHQL or later. This one is not optional.
- .NET Runtime 8 or later. The Microsoft Store pulls this in for you.
- An internet connection, for driver checks and updates.
Older Iris Xe and UHD Graphics systems fall below that hardware floor and stay on Intel Graphics Command Center. Two Ways To Get It
- It may already be there. Intel bundles Graphics Software with driver 32.0.101.6325 and later, so if you have installed a recent driver, check your Start menu before downloading anything.
- Install it separately. Use the download link on this page if it is missing, or if the driver install skipped it.
After installing, launch it once and let it read your hardware. If it opens to an error instead of a dashboard, the driver is the thing to check, not the app. A failed or half-finished driver install is the usual cause, and Driver Store Explorer will clear out leftover driver packages so a reinstall starts clean.
Privacy and Permissions, Plainly
Installing this app asks Windows for permission to run a service with elevated privileges. That sounds alarming and it is worth understanding rather than clicking past: the service is what reads temperatures and applies tuning changes at a level a normal app cannot reach. Overclocking controls do not work without it.
On data, Intel's position is that the app collects anonymous usage information only, nothing tied to you or your system, and that it exists to guide development. You can switch it off under Settings > Preferences > Analytics by turning off Allow Data Collection. Worth doing on day one if you would rather not send anything.
What It Will Not Fix
Worth being clear about the edges, because a control panel gets blamed for a lot of things it never touched.
It will not make a video file play. If a clip opens silent or black, that is a missing decoder, and Codec Finder will name it in a few seconds. The usual fixes are the HEVC Video Extension, the OEM edition at HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer, the AV1 Video Extension, or a general bundle like the K-Lite Codec Pack with LAV Filters underneath.
It will not fix bad playback in one specific player either. That is usually a renderer issue, and swapping to madVR in MPC-HC, or trying PotPlayer instead, sorts most of it. Our guide to the best HEVC video players covers which ones lean on Intel hardware decoding properly.
And it only speaks to Intel graphics. On other hardware you want NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready Drivers or the AMD Radeon Adrenalin drivers, with the Ryzen chipset drivers alongside on an AMD build.
